Java 8 Update 45 Download Mac

  1. Go to the Oracle website. You'll see something like this:

  2. Scroll down until you see a heading beginning 'Java SE 8u65/8u66.' On the right, you'll see a Download button under the JDK header. Click it. The next screen will look like this:

Click the radio button next to 'Accept License Agreement' and then click on jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg. You'll be asked whether to save the file that is going to be downloaded; click on Save File.

  3. Open your Downloads folder, and double-click on jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg. You'll see this window:

  4. Double-click on the package icon, and follow the instructions to install. When the installation has completed, click on Done. At this point, you may close up the window and drag jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg to the Trash.

Installing Eclipse

  1. If you already have Eclipse installed on your Mac, you need to get rid of it. To do so, first quit Eclipse if you're currently running it. Then, go to your workspace folder (probably in Documents/workspace) and save anything there that you want to keep, because you're about to get rid of this folder. Next, drag the workspace folder to the Trash.

Go to your Applications folder. One way to get there is, from the Finder, type command-shift-A. You'll a folder named eclipse in there; drag the eclipse folder to the Trash. If you have an Eclipse icon in your dock, remove it from the dock.

  2. Now you're ready to download and install the newest version of Eclipse. Go to this website. You'll see a window like this:

Scroll down until you see 'Eclipse IDE for Java Developers' and click where it says 64 bit under Mac OS X.

  3. You will see this window:

Click on the yellow download button. If asked, click on 'Open with Archive Utility (default)' and then click OK. The download might take a few minutes. You should not feel compelled to donate.

  4. After the download completes, folders should automatically expand. If they don't, double-click on the .tar file. When that's done, you should see a folder named eclipse in your Downloads folder. When you open your Downloads folder, if you see Applications under the Favorites on the left side of the window, you should drag the eclipse folder into Applications. If you don't see Applications, then open a new window for Applications (from the Finder, command-shift-A), and drag the eclipse folder into Applications.

  5. Open your Applications folder, and then open the eclipse folder. You'll see an item named Eclipse; if you like, drag its icon into the dock so that you'll be able to launch Eclipse easily.

  6. Launch Eclipse. If you're asked whether you want to open it, of course you do; click Open. You'll see a window like this:

It will have your user name rather than mine (scot). Select where you want your workspace to be; I recommend the default of your Documents folder. Click the checkbox for using this location as the default, and then click OK.

  7. You'll see a window like this:

Click on the Workbench arrow in the upper right that I've circled. You shouldn't see this screen again, even if you quit Eclipse and relaunch it.

  8. You'll get an empty workbench like this:

We won't be using the 'Task List' and 'Connect Mylyn' windows. Click the 'x' on each to close it. Press the mouse on the Window menu item, then choose 'Perspective', and finally choose 'Save Perspective as..'. Enter 'cs10' for the name of this perspective and press return. Your workbench will now look like this:

    You have now installed Eclipse!

  13. And you're done!

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) allows you to play online games, chat with people around the world, calculate your mortgage interest, and view images in 3D, just to name a few. It's also integral to the intranet applications and other e-business solutions that are the foundation of corporate computing.
It provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which Enables Applets to Run in Popular Browsers; and Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Many cross-platform applications also require Java to operate properly.
Itis a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. There are lots of applications and websites that will not work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day. The program is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere! Itis at the heart of the digital lifestyle. It's the platform for launching careers, exploring human-to-digital interfaces, architecting the world's best applications, and unlocking innovation everywhere—from garages to global organizations.
Why should I upgrade to the latest version?
The latest version contains important enhancements to improve the performance, stability, and security of the applications that run on your machine. Installing this free update will ensure that your applications continue to run safely and efficiently.
What will I get when I download software?
The Java Runtime Environment 64 bit (JRE) is what you get when you download software. The JRE consists of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Java platform core classes, and supporting Java platform libraries. The JRE is the runtime portion of the software, which is all you need to run it in your Web browser.
What is Java Plug-in software?
The program is a component of the (JRE). The JRE allows applets written in the programming language to run inside various internet browsers. The Plug-in software is not a standalone program and cannot be installed separately.
I have heard the terms Virtual Machine and JVM. Is this software?
The Virtual Machine is only one aspect of software that is involved in web interaction. The Java Virtual Machine is built right into your software download and helps run Java apps.
Note: When your installation completes, you may need to restart your browser (close all browser windows and re-open) to enable the installation.

This page has these topics:

See 'JDK 8 and JRE 8 Installation Start Here' for general information about installing JDK 8 and JRE 8.

See 'OS X Platform Install FAQ' for general information about installing JDK 8 on OS X.

System Requirements

Observe the following requirements:

  • Any Intel-based computer running OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or later.

  • Administrator privileges.

Note that installing the JDK on OS X is performed on a system wide basis, for all users, and administrator privileges are required. You cannot install Java for a single user.

Installing the JDK also installs the JRE. The one exception is that the system will not replace the current JRE with a lower version. To install a lower version of the JRE, first uninstall the current version as described in 'Uninstalling the JRE'.

JDK Installation Instructions

When you install the Java Development Kit (JDK), the associated Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is installed at the same time. The JavaFX SDK and Runtime are also installed and integrated into the standard JDK directory structure.

Depending on your processor, the downloaded file has one of the following names:

  • jdk-8uversion-macosx-amd64.dmg

  • jdk-8uversion-macosx-x64.dmg

There can be multiple JDKs installed on a system, as many as you wish.

When launching a Java application through the command line, the system uses the default JDK. It is possible for the version of the JRE to be different than the version of the JDK.

You can determine which version of the JDK is the default by typing java -version in a Terminal window. If the installed version is 8u6, you will see a string that includes the text 1.8.0_06. For example:

To run a different version of Java, either specify the full path, or use the java_home tool:

For more information, see the java_home(1) man page.

    Uninstalling the JDK

To uninstall the JDK, you must have Administrator privileges and execute the remove command either as root or by using the sudo(8) tool.

    For example, to uninstall 8u6:

Do not attempt to uninstall Java by removing the Java tools from /usr/bin. This directory is part of the system software and any changes will be reset by Apple the next time you perform an update of the OS.

With Oracle’s Java 8, there’s been some confusion as to whether Java 8 runs on Mac OS X 10.7.5. This issue was lent additional urgency in the wake of Oracle’s announcement that they will begin auto-updating Java 7 users to Java 8 starting in January 2015.

The root of the confusion lies in the fact that Oracle has listed two different sets of system requirements on their website for Macs running Java 8 on Mac OS X.

The first set is available via Oracle’s general Java system requirements page. This page states that Java 8 requires the following:

    • Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.8.3+, 10.9+
    • Administrator privileges for installation
    • 64-bit browser
    Download java 7 for mac

Java Download For Mac Os X 10.6 8

The second set is available via the Java download page for Mac OS X. The system requirements linked from the download page state that Oracle’s Java requires the following:

    • Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later.
    • Administrator privileges for installation
    • 64-bit browser

    Java 7 Update 45 Install

In short, the question of Java 8 support for 10.7.x depended on which system requirement page was correct. For more details, see below the jump.

Based on my testing, it appears that the current version of Java 8 (Java 8 Update 25) installs on Mac OS X 10.7.5 without issues.

Following installation, I tested on a 10.7.5 Mac against the following sites:

My work’s Juniper VPN (which uses a signed Java applet)

    Oracle’s Java Test page: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Download Java 7 Update 45 For Mac 64-bit

Java Tester’s Java Version page: http://javatester.org/version.html

In all three cases, the Java applets on those sites launched and worked without issue using Java 8 Update 25 (though the javatester.org applet needed to be whitelisted.)
